Interview with Mikael Larsson, CEO Learnster

What does EdTech mean to you?
EdTech for me is innovative and user-friendly technology, used with the purpose to achieve learning- and skills developments for both individuals and companies.
Why do you think the EdTech industry is so important?
Quality Education is one of UNESCO's 17 goals to transform our world. Our industry plays a key part in making this happen. Helping people and businesses adapt to the challenges of the modern world is a huge driving force for us. This adaptation needs to happen in the traditional school, of course, but in the business world as well. Continuous learning and developments today are key for both people, companies and the global community.

What is trending on the EdTech scene right now?
The obvious answer is “AI, machine learning and blockchain technology”, as these new innovations are on everyone’s lips these days. But with all this new technology knocking on our door, it’s important not to forget the technical challenges most companies struggle with on a daily basis right now. According to the 2018 Workplace Learning Report from LinkedIn, 81% percent of executive say that finding and keeping talents is the number one priority at the company. Yet, the millennials, thus having a stronger desire for development than any other generation, are much less likely to stay at a company. Especially if that company does not offer individual skill developments and the possibility to learn at the point of need. We believe solving these day-to-day problems are equally important to forward thinking companies, as keeping up with new innovative technology.
Why are you coming to EdTech Sweden?

At Learnster, we feel that EdTech Sweden is a very important venue. Here, our industry can meet up and share ideas and initiatives that can actually improve the world we live in. By coming to EdTech Sweden, we hope to bring something to the table that can aid in that quest.

What are your expectations of the days?
Hopefully, there will be a lot of smart people in one room, so my personal expectation is to become smarter!

Why did you decide to become a Gold partner 2018?
I’m trying to find a humble way to say this, but to be honest, the interest in Learnster have been huge since day 1. To be selected as one out of eight companies for the Sting Accelerate program in 2017 was definitely a highlight, but the true vote of confidence we received from well-known brands like SATSELIXIA, O’Leary’s and Söderberg & Partners. They all left their old legacy systems in favor of Learnster, even though our platform were in an early stage at that time - truly amazing! So, right now we are buzzing with all the great feedback we have received from new clients and new users. By becoming an EdTech Gold Partner 2018, we will be able to showcase what Learnster is all about, to the entire industry. This is something we’re truly looking forward to!

Networking is an important part of the event. Who are you looking forward to meet?
We look forward to meeting existing- and new clients, “Learnsters”, potential collaborators and of course, our colleagues from the industry.
